Refugee Fund - Open for Applications

The aggravation of the crisis in Europe in summer 2015 has moved a number of branches and activists to provide additional local help to refugees on the move and at their arrival

Considering the positive effects of such efforts and their coherence with SCI mission and history, at SCI's International Committee Meeting 2015 branches proposed and approved an Urgent Resolution aimed at providing small and easily accessible funds to groups and branches planning projects and actions with and for refugees, lowering barriers to connect with locals and promoting mutual understanding.

The Refugee Fund was initially created using SCI own resources, and will be hopefully refilled thanks to the support of private donors and as a result of local/national and international fundraising activities carried on by branches and activist themselves.

The Refugee Fund provides funding (up to 500€) to enable volunteers to carry out small initiatives at the local or national level that support work with refugees.

Possible activities include:

  • Work with communities where refugees settled to help their social inclusion

  • Work with local communities aimed at lowering the prejudices toward refugees

  • Work with refugees on the move

We would like to encourage all SCI activists to develop ideas for activities and hope this fund can be a small help in making them real. All projects need the backing of a SCI branch or group. In this first experimental edition, the fund is open only to SCI activists, but we hope to extend it in the future.
