SCI is currently looking for an International Coordinator to lead its International Secretariat in Antwerp, Belgium. SCI is looking for someone with strong leadership and communication skills, intercultural experience, vision, creativity, proven staff management skills, and experience in international civil and voluntary service organisations.

STATUS OF POST
The post is based at the International Secretariat of SCI in Antwerp, Belgium. SCI offers a full-time position (37.5 hrs/week) with an open-ended contract in-line with Belgian legislation.
The candidate needs to have the legal right of employment in Belgium.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Main responsibilities of the International Coordinator

  • Support cooperation between local branches, groups and thematic or regional working groups
  • Oversee collaboration between branches for the organisation of international voluntary projects
  • Take part in key internal meetings to guide and support SCI’s initiatives
  • As an ex-officio member of the SCI International Executive Committee, regularly communicate and report to the IEC
  • Work with the IEC and other relevant bodies to prepare and implement SCI’s yearly plan of action, in line with its Strategic Plan


Project management and fundraising

  • Oversee and support fundraising initiatives
  • Plan and contribute to collaborative grant writing initiatives
  • Oversee the sound implementation of operational and structural grants supporting SCI’s international budget
  • Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements and deadlines


Networking and external representation

  • Oversee and support fundraising initiatives
  • Plan and contribute to collaborative grant writing initiatives
  • Oversee the sound implementation of operational and structural grants supporting SCI’s international budget
  • Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements and deadlines


Event management

  • Prepare and follow up to the SCI International Committee Meeting (ICM), and ensure compliance with established rules of procedure
  • Support the preparation and follow up to regular IEC meetings (in person and online)
  • Support logistical and travel arrangements as needed


Staff and office management

  • Direct the daily operations of the International Secretariat in Antwerp, Belgium
  • Oversee the administrative, financial and legal management of the International Secretariat
  • Manage a team of currently 4 staff and 5 volunteers.

PROFILE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COORDINATOR
The ideal SCI International Coordinator will have the following personal attributes and qualifications:

  • Ability to identify the needs of the organisation and propose solution
  • Ability to think strategically and propose new directions
  • Ability to take initiative where appropriate to deal with daily challenges
  • Ability to work independently by making use of experience and available information
  • Ability to adapt or change priorities according to the changing situation within the organisation
  • Ability to work in a young and dynamic work environment
  • Ability to cooperate with and manage an international team of paid staff and volunteers
  • Ability to delegate tasks, coordinate the work of a team and work remotely
  • Availability to travel in Europe and beyond for meetings and projects.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable

  • Familiarity with administrative practices and procedures in the Belgian non-governmental sector
  • Self-driven and motivated individual with a high sense of quality, efficiency and meeting tight deadlines
  • Additional languages, especially Dutch or French
  • Minimum 3 years of experience of working at in/with international voluntary service organisations
  • Experience running and participating in global projects would be a strong advantage.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


SCI offers a full-time position (37.5 hrs/week) in its International Secretariat in Antwerp, Belgium with an open-ended contract in-line with Belgian legislation.
Please note that SCI is not in the position of sponsoring work visas. The candidate needs to have the legal right of employment in Belgium.
