From 17th to 22nd October the Coordinating Committee for International  Voluntary Service is organizing the Human Rights Week thanks to the Raising Peace campaign.

We have lots of new beginnings at the International Secretariat this month! Last week, we welcomed Alena, our new Project Officer. This morning, Angeliki had a short interview with Alena who answered some questions about her first week with us and what she will be working on in the coming months. Find out more!

On Friday, the 3rd Compass Forum on Human Rights Education "Learning Equality, Living Dignity", organized by the Council of Europe came to an end.  Over an intense 3 days the forum gathered 120 people from all around Europe and beyond, discussing the shared notion of Human Rights Education and Education for Democratic Citizenship laid in the Charter by the Council of Europe 2009 and tackling the present challenges of implementing human rights education in different countries, on non-govermental and govermental level. Two SCI representatives took part in several workshops focusing on topic of Human Rights Education linked to the area of "War and terrorism", "Crisis of democracy and rising nationalism".

Yesterday we said goodbye to Shane who joined us at the International Secretariat last October together with Angeliki as part of the EVS project: "Count Me In: Volunteering for a Global Community". Shane was behind all our tweets for the past year and the Climate for Peace Newsletter. Today he returned to Ireland to start his studies in Psychology and Social Sciences and we wish him the best of luck and good wishes for the future.
