Long term volunteering

Hello everybody,

I’m Michèle from Switzerland and I’m doing a long-term internship in Kenya. Volunteering connects people, cultures, languages, thoughts, emotions and much more. Volunteering means being flexible, motivated, understanding and willing to compromise. You get know a lot about another country but i find more about myself. During my stay in Kenya, I have the opportunity to discover experiences like these. Since the beginning of February I live in Kima a small village in Vihiga County in the west of Kenya. The organization Kipepeo Community Empowerment Program (KCEP) has her home there. The attraction that drove me here was a project in the hospital. Due the current situation caused by the Coronavirus, some measures have been introduced. This applies not only to the country even to us international volunteers. Unfortunately we had to pause our project and follow up to the «stay at home» regulation. Where door closes, a new one opens.

So we have for example tidied up the office, made a shelf as old egg boxes, or let my creativity run wild while drawing. In addition to these activities, we are still allowed to go to the farm where premaculture is practiced or make contributions for social media. If you want to know more about my stay here or about Kima, you can follow Kipepeo on Instagram à kipepeo.kenya and Facebook à Kipepeo Community Empowerment Program.

During my stay here I learn less is much much more. It is not about changing the world. Is About gaining experience and share it, laughing together and developing further and above all is about enjoying and creating awareness.

You can still join!
