Create Peace: Youth Artivism for Climate Justice

PROJECT DURATION

February-December 2026

The background

Create Peace: Youth Artivism for Climate Justice is a project coordinated by SCI’s Climate Team. It is a group of young members from various SCI organisations, focusing on advancing climate justice within the SCI network and globally. Acting as SCI’s hub for youth climate action, the team is committed to promoting a sustainable and equitable future.

Peace in practice

Create Peace responds to two urgent realities for young people: the accelerating climate crisis and the rise of militarisation. This project combines climate justice and antimilitarism in practice through creative communication tools, embodied activism and a renewal of SCI’s century-old volunteer camp model.

In 2026, Create Peace will support young people in becoming active agents of climate justice and peace with 2 international activities and 10 climate-focused camps across the Council of Europe region (and beyond). The project will combine arts and activism through theatre and motion storytelling, short film creation, and hands-on volunteer work.

The objectives

Engage at least 10 local communities in hands-on climate action and peacebuilding work

Equip young people with knowledge and practical skills for climate justice advocacy through non-formal education

Learn about climate justice and its intersectionality

Train junior facilitators and future camp coordinators

Innovate SCI’s “workcamp” model by updating it

Strengthen SCI’s Climate Team

The activities

The project includes 3 main activities:

15-22 April 2026

This activity in Vienna, Austria, will be a 6-day training on how climate justice and antimilitarism intersect. The participants will be taught to understand the complexity of the topics mentioned and how to communicate them through visual and storytelling tools. They will also be invited to co-create updated volunteer camp methods.

A series of 10 international mini volunteer camps across the Council of Europe region and beyond. Volunteers will put the new volunteer camp methods from the activity in Vienna into use and will use artivism as a tool to turn eco-anxiety into constructive action.

18-26 August 2026

This training in Subotica, Serbia will be a 7-day activity and will focus on creative and artistic methods for climate justice activism. Participants will be encouraged to use creative ways like storytelling, theater, public interventions and even the development of a short film to learn how to convey powerful messages through art and the body.
