August 2023

12 days, 2 locations (Kuala Lumpur and Penang), 1 volunteering workcamp and an endless number of positive emotions, new experience and joy. All this happened to me at the SCI workcamp from 4th to 15th of August 2023.

My name is Viktoriia, I’m from Russia, I’m 23 and this is my first volunteering workcamp in my life and my first acquaintance with Asia. And it began with an acquaintance with Malaysia – bright, colorful and so friendly country.

Even thousands of miles from home, I didn’t feel lonely or insecure because the people around me made me feel like family.

As part of the workcamp, local and international volunteers did manual work, helped organize the peace run, made performances, got to know new things and shared knowledge about their country. The work was interesting, every day taught us to be flexible in tasks, full of learning and sharing. These few weeks have been full of discoveries: new places, new tastes, new smells and new incredible culture. It is impossible not to admire the diversity, culture and nature of Malaysia! It seems as if I got into a fairy tale.

The work camp gave me the opportunity to enjoy every day of this little adventure, doing a meaningful job and make a world a better place.

I am grateful to all the people who met me during the project. Each of them was always friendly and kind, tried to make my stay in Malaysia comfortable and memorable. I will forever remember this wonderful work camp and every person who made it so wonderful!

Thanks and regards, Viktoriia!
