Midterm Update on SCI’s Regranting Scheme

As 2024 progresses we checked in with our branches carrying out projects under SCI’s regranting scheme and are thrilled to share the progress they made. Funded through the EU’s Citizens, Equality, Rights, and Values Programme (CERV), the Regranting Scheme supports initiatives that manifest the core values of SCI and the European Union. Always with a strong focus on peace, inclusion and the protection of the environment!

This year, we are proud to support many diverse initiatives from our branches!

Here are the highlights of the project so far:

SCI Poland is leading the Peace Education Centre initiative, which focuses on educational activities on the topics of peace, social justice, and inclusiveness. Recently, they celebrated their 30th anniversary with a successful conference on peace education, bringing together over 30 experts and panelists. Looking ahead, they plan to launch a training program in October and a Peace Challenge for schools that will kick off this November!

SCI Slovenia is reviving community building through quality volunteering. Their plan includes enhancing their digital infrastructure and promoting volunteerism through engaging events and a new TikTok channel! They’re also working on improving visibility and outreach while updating their office and workshops resources.

SCI Germany is running Learning from History II, which includes six workcamps taking place at important WWII sites. These camps, held mostly during summer, gave participants insights into peacebuilding by learning from the past. Participants from around the world left with a deeper understanding of democratic values and the importance of history, especially in today’s context, with the extreme far-right surge in Europe.

KVT Finland is implementing A Path Forward – Together for Climate Justice. They have planned an engaging seminar weekend to discuss climate justice, featuring workshops on ethical volunteer travel, a guided hike and a sauna break!  In  November, they are organizing a follow-up event that will include a documentary screening and a discussion about the impacts of the climate crisis on peace and social justice.

VIA Netherlands is championing the No More War in 2024 project, focusing on anti-militarism and the promotion of non-violent solutions. They have successfully hosted two film festivals, two webinars and an online course, with more events to come, including a No More War Lab this November in the Netherlands!

They are offering grants for workcamp participation for people with fewer opportunities, organizing mini-workcamps for locals, and translating their protocol against LGBTQ+, sexist and racist aggressions, which is being released in October!

What’s Next?

As the year progresses, the organizations are set to build on their momentum, with inspiring activities planned that strengthen the goals of peace, inclusion, and environmental awareness. Together, these projects showcase the spirit of collaboration and the commitment of SCI to fostering a vibrant and inclusive society. We look forward to sharing the impact of all these projects later this year, so stay tuned for more updates on this fascinating initiative!
