The project is taking place in Xinavane, a small Mozambican village located by the Incomati River. The economy of this village runs on the basis of sugar: a vast plantation and sugarcane processing plant as well as agriculture. In this area, AJOV has been developing various field activities in order to give more capacity for food safety and boost community development.
Volunteers will do farming work, promote sustainable agriculture, and collaborate with the community and local farmers to develop social and community work. They will also create recreation activities such as games, songs and intercultural exchange.
Most activities will be conducted in Portuguese, given the local context and the community served, however English will be used as a supporting language, especially for communication between international volunteers. All volunteers will receive basic Portuguese language training before and during the camp.
