Global perspectives on climate change and classism

By SCI Germany

SCI Germany started a new international school project called “Global perspectives on climate change and classism”.

On the 6th of August 10 young volunteers from 8 different countries arrived in Germany for a stay of two and a half month. They will support the school project which has the topic “United Youth: Global perspectives on climate change and classism”. The aim of the whole program is to design workshops for school pupils (14-18 years old) on the mentioned topic and increase the attention for our responsibility in the global world.

The project started with a two weeks workcamp about renewable energies. Now the volunteers prepare the workshops together with two professional trainers before the school visits will start in September. The participants will discuss with students about climate change and how it affects the daily life and future of people with different living conditions.

The workshops will answer questions like:

  • Who bears how much responsibility for the climate crisis?
  • Who is affected by the negative consequences of climate change and to what extent?
  • What strategies for action for more climate justice can be implemented and are close to the reality of life for people who have less access to education and/or income than the middle class, which is strongly represented in the climate movement? How can they be adequately addressed and reached/motivated? What obstacles exist at a structural level?
  • How can the climate movement become more inclusive?

With the project we want to exchange opinions, experiences, and views from different perspectives.

Luckily the Stiftung Umwelt und Entwicklung Nordrhein-Westfalen supports SCI Germany in the realisation of this project.
