Mir(ë) Films Against War festival
On Saturday, No More War and SCI Belgium held the Mir(ë) Films Against War festival in Brussels, at the Peace House.
Organised by No More War members Nastia and Aleks, the 7th edition of Films Against War compiled six shorts on Eastern Europe. The festival dealt with queerphobia and its intersection with antimilitarism within the region.
“We chose mir(ë) as the name because mir means “peace” in multiple proto-Balto-Slavic languages and the (ë) was added to include Kosovo and Albania as well, since mirë in these countries means “good”,” explained Nastia during the introduction.
The programme included Between Home and Myself by Legal Initiative, Monument by Maksim Avdeev, Roma Boys by Rozalie Kohoutova, Before Curfew by Angelik Ustymenko, Transition by Milica Tomovic and Gorzko by Marcin Kluczykowski.
Four of the directors (a representative of Legal initiative, Avdeev, Ustymenko and Kohoutova) managed to participate in an online Q&A, as well as Kateryna Vodzinska, Ukrainian activist, member of “Kyiv City Youth Council” and volunteer for non-governmental organisation Stella.
A snack bar was set up by the co-organisers, with snacks from Eastern Europe, for the participants to enjoy during the breaks. The event took place in good spirit, as laughs were shared and even some tears during Transition.
Overall, the participants gave positive feedback on their experience at the Peace House.
A total of 35 participants showed up to the event, making this a successful first edition of Films Against War 2026!
