2 workcamps by SCI India Karnataka Group

by SCI India

SCI India Karnataka Group held two workcamps last month.

1. Dinner with people with disabilities; Participants for the World 10K run held in Bangalore.
We met many participants with various disabilities and yet they said to us that were very much alive and content despite their circumstances. A large number of people in India have committed suicide after sinking into depression, therefore this event was particularly significant. It was too touching to  meet Mr. Muniswamy from Andhra Pradesh who has settled in Bangalore. He is doing Food Deliveries for a Food Delivery Application Known as Zomato. His electronic wheelchair allows him to navigate the hectic streets of Bangalore, and he uses a combination of a lift and a ramp to bring meals all the way to people’s doors in their apartments. He currently makes 8 daily deliveries.
2- After this we had the Camp in Vadarahatti which is a 2 Hour Long Drive from Bangalore City. We took up the Planting of Saplings and Painting of the School.
The Village is very thinly populated with just over 350 people which includes adults, children. Goat rearing iis their primary source of income. It was a joyous event to clean and paint the school. It was fantastic to talk to the locals in the village. We noticed a young boy who was incredibly talented but who refused to appear in any photos since he was always hiding when the camera was pointed his way. After some thought, we realized that his shirt was torn. We immediately got him a new shirt but thanked us from a distance. Even though he was thrilled to get the shirt, yet somehow was unhappy why his dad has not got it for him. Seeing some of the things in the villages was too challenging but their eyes light up with joy when you wish them well. Because of the remote location of the community, a number of the elderly never make it to the hospital for routine checkups. The arrival of a doctor in their own community was met with great relief.
